Are our winningest moments behind us? Say it aint so.

It’s been pretty popular since the dawn of time.  Wars were fought to achieve it.   Frontiers were forged to obtain it.  It has recently enjoyed a surge in popularity (as if it needed it) thanks to the illustrious and eloquent Mr. Sheen.  Yes folks I’m talking about Winning.

From the frozenpea.xanga.com

I got to thinking about winning and was struck by how many opportunities we have to be victorious in our adolescent and teen years (and perform the requisite “We beat! We beat! We beat yo stinking feet! Yall loss! Yall loss! Yall ate tomato sauce!” chant)  as opposed to now.  I mean back in the day you had:

  • Hide and Seek marathons…WINNING
  • I Have a Dream essay contests…WINNING
  • 6th, 8th and 12th grade graduations/commencements…WINNING

You know I think I went to grad school as much for the student loans and grants as I did in search of that ol’ winning feeling that I’d get on graduation day!

I mean as an adult, how many opportunities do we have for that cloud 9, Nanny nanny boo boo! You can’t catch me!,  I’m-kind-of-a-big-deal type of high that we got every 5 minutes when we were kids?

What do we got?

  • A high score on Angry Birds…winning
  • A lot of ‘likes’ on your Facebook status…winning
  • A new recipe that the kids don’t hate…winning
  • A raise at work … WINNING (but how often does that happen?)

I love my life—the good bad and ugly—but I’m gonna need  some more of those cloud 9 moments.  I’m on a quest to find and create winning moments (thats why I’m doing this) and when I find em’ I will be doing the tomato sauce chant.  Already have yours?  Care to share em?

Playing catch up! Four the easy way.

Hi guys!!

Welcomes to Days 6, 7, 8 & 9!!!

Please forgive the tardiness of these offerings.  I knew that doing this project every day for a year would be an experience and an exercise in consistency and I felt myself prepared for the challenge (a random book a day? WINNING!!!).  I was excited to do my Dewey lottery, hunt the book and then do an arm chair analyses of  a different book each and every day…except on weekends.

So the first weekend of this project found me looking at the computer, knowing I had an obligation yet still shirking it.  And then it was a long weekend too  with the M.L.K. holiday!  Fahget-about-it.  Here is an abbreviated version of my regular entries, just the bibliographic info and a picture because I aint got it in me to read skim four books today.  So do yourself a favor! If any of these books looks mildly interesting to you check em out!! They long for your caress!

Day 18 Joey bag of coconut donuts

Something you crave a lot:

Some times you wanna go…where everybody knows your name…

Well they don’t exactly know my name but they do know my usual.  Not exactly proud of it but I have a usual at my Dunkin Donuts—the coconut donut.  This heavenly, ‘holey’ confection is a hybrid of two of my weaknesses.  Cake—good. Coconut—good.

I don’t know where this coconut obsession came from.  It really is a recent development but all of a sudden I gotta have coconut: coconut shrimp, coconut soup, coconut cake, coconut ice cream, coconut fish, coconut coconut…

So I figure when they publish findings that rabid coconut consumption is linked to heart health, long life and over-all awesomeness I’ll be light years ahead of the game! WINNING!
